Selamat Datang …. This is MSU

Selamat Datang   …. This is MSU

An orientation session involving new MSUrians  is an event that I have always looked forward to, and this morning session was no exception. Despite having to do this for so many years, it gives me much satisfaction sharing the MSU story with these fresh faces.

Today there were about two hundred students waiting for me at M201. As I entered the auditorium, the students were quiet, arms were tightly folded trying to fight the cold-dry-air emitted from the air-condition vents. Soon, as I got into what MSU can do for them for a career path which is both rewarding and enriching, the cold went away. The auditorium now is filled with eager faces looking forward to a great learning experience ready to be savoured .

I normally begin my session by asking students what has prompted them to enrol at MSU.  From friends to programme of studies and a load of other positive reasons, I can’t help but felt touched to note that these students have done their home work about MSU.  Their decision, undoubtedly, is an informed one.

My advice is to take advantage of the vast learning opportunities available and it is important that one manages his or her time effectively.  As an MSUrian, planning is one of the bigger challenges that needs a little bit of thinking on your part.  Learning is no longer confined to the comfort of air-conditioned rooms or some quiet corner of the library. Learning is everywhere in MSU. The games, the food stalls, donation drives, mobility programmes, competitions and the ever popular community engagement activities are ever present in the MSU’s vibrant calendar.

All new students should make it a point to visit the Students & Career Development (SCD) department as regularly as possible.  The SCD, a one-stop-centre, provides good information and updates on campus happening.  Then there are the faculties and departments within these faculties that keep you posted.  Likewise, you may also catch-up with campus development via Twitter or Facebook. Basically, there aren’t any shortages of source. Or come over to the Corporate Communications department and let’s discuss how we can help you publicised and provide the necessary mileage to your planned events. What’s important is to be involved in the vibrant campus atmosphere.  Make a difference and the world shall take notice of you.

Looking forward to seeing you again.

Cheers and good luck!
